Nail art ideas! -Easy to advanced

9 June 2013

I'm rubbish at painting my nails so doing this post was actually really hard for me to think of designs that i could do with it looking like a complete and utter mess!

Polka Dots

to start its the simple polka dots! i know this isn't very exciting but it can look really good!
for the beginner..

wow

love these, even the beginner (which is me ha) looks really effective! i did this the other day but stupidly forgot to photograph it! so these ones from the wonderful nail artist of google ;)
How to..
You will need:
  • At least two nail varnishes ( i used barry M red and white )
  • A hair grip

  1. Paint your nails with one of your colour's and  allow it to dry completely
  2. Then take your hair grip and bend it until it's straight.
  3. Dip the end of the hair grip into your second nail varnish.
  4. Using the round end of the hair grip, dab it on to your nails. The round end creates a perfect polka dot.
  5. Repeat on all nails and voila - perfect spotty nails!

Newspaper Nails

i was put off doing this because i just assumed i couldn't do it as it looked hard and if i'm honest quite complicated! i watched and read many tutorials which said you needed to buy some kind of weird looking potion which wasn't the cheapest and quite frankly i couldn't be bothered to purchase something which i properly couldn't do anyway..but.. then i discovered this ...

You will need:
  • A pale nail varnish, i used  --->
    surprisingly good for next!
  • A sheet of newspaper
  • Scissors
  • An eggcup of vodka (or any other alcohol) or a alcohol based mouthwash such as listerine!
  • A clear nail varnish or topcoat

  1. Cut the newspaper into 10 pieces, roughly two inches wide and one inch long (more than enough to cover a fingernail). Also make sure that you have alot of words on the newspaper otherwise it wont look right!
  2. Apply two coats of pale nail polish and let it dry completely.
  3. Dip one fingernail in the vodka.  (mmmmm) or mouthwash  Either way I found it good to press on top of the square of newspaper once it was on your nail, with something absorbent like a cotton wool pad to soak up excess alcohol, i found that i got a much better finish this way :)
  4. Press a strip of newspaper onto the nail, being careful to cover the whole nail and to keep it still allowing the vodka to soak through.
  5. Peel the paper off slowly (and be really impressed with yourself).
  6. Once every nail is done and the vodka has dried, apply a top coat of clear varnish.
da daaa!

Leopard print nails

Again i was sceptical about trying this look much it was much easier than i expected!

You will need:
Two contrasting nail varnishes , i used the same next nail polishes as the shades of nudes contrasted well together :) models own do very similar colours to these!
  1. Paint your nails with the base colour, in my case this was the lighter one and allow it to dry.
  2. Paint dots on the nail using the contrasting colour. The less perfect, the better the effect - so don't worry if they're different sizes and shapes.
  3. Use the nail art pen to outline the dots making sure you don't go the whole way round!

or multicoloured .. here's a step by step..
